I. Lessons from Ancient Greece
In Ancient Greece, wisdom flowed through two distinct channels. The masses sought guidance from the Oracle of Delphi, receiving cryptic, one-size-fits-all prophecies. But the elites knew better—they invested fortunes in personal mentors, like Aristotle guiding young Alexander the Great, because they understood that true wisdom comes from personalized guidance.
Two thousand years later, we face the same divide. While content is abundant, genuine mentorship remains a luxury for the few.
Delphi is changing that. We are the world's platform for Human Intelligence, enabling meaningful connections with the best minds on the planet to solve problems, explore ideas, and access personalized wisdom at scale.
II. My first Mentor
My journey to creating Delphi began with a deeply personal need. As a first-generation American with parents who immigrated during the 1979 Iranian Revolution, I was taught to be self-reliant. While this made me stronger, it also meant I rarely sought mentorship.
This really hit home in 2021, when I found myself at a crossroads. As a solo founder fresh after quitting my job, I faced crushing loneliness and constant challenges. I desperately needed guidance, but didn't know where to turn.
During this time, I started reading a book about my grandfather—one of Iran's most successful pre-revolution businessmen, known for both his success and unwavering integrity. When the revolution came, he landed on the government's hit list. To escape certain death, he had to be smuggled out of Iran hidden under the belly of a donkey. While he survived with his life, he lost almost everything he had built and had to start over from scratch.
Reading his story, I felt a deep connection and found myself constantly wondering: "What would you do in my situation?" But I couldn't ask him directly—he had suffered a stroke two years earlier, making meaningful communication impossible.
So, using his book and what I knew about AI, I created a digital version of him that I could actually talk to and get personalized advice from.
This experience sparked Delphi's creation and a bigger question: how can we access other people's wisdom in more meaningful ways?
III. The Evolution of Media
Throughout history, knowledge has been intrinsically linked to power. From the Library of Alexandria to the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, great civilizations have risen through the collection and application of knowledge. But access to information alone isn't enough—true wisdom requires mentorship.
Here's the challenge. We can access people's thoughts passively through books, videos, and podcasts, but this content takes hours to digest and isn't personalized to our needs. Or, if we're lucky enough to have the money or network, we can get 1-1 time with experts. Most people don't have that luxury.
The fundamental limit we all face is time. We can only be in one place at once, and our impact is ultimately capped by our mortality.
Since the dawn of time, we've sought ways to scale our influence - from cave drawings to the printing press to the radio, reaching millions but through static, unchanging content. We've built teams and trained others in our way of thinking, creating 'mini versions' of ourselves, but this proves costly and loses fidelity.
